If there’s a certain chain of grocery store you want to visit nationwide, now is the ideal time to take that trip. I was literally thinking about that just now.

Ok, you’re really going to have to expand on that idea. The only grocery store chain I could think of as a road-trip-worthy destination might be Piggly Wiggly, just because I love O Brother Where Art Thou .

There’s a Piggly Wiggly right by me. The parking lot is full of potholes, it’s in bad shape, and the regular priced stuff is more expensive than Publix. I go there for weekly ad stuff and incidental cheaper items on the seldom grocery occasions. Their chicken tender dinner plates are great and good values, too.
Food Depot and Aldi are the best around here.

I was reading somewhere that if Russia and Saudi Arabia continue the oil wars, oil might eventually become free, even if it is for a second

Yeah, I wouldn’t be going for the prices. What chain were you ruminating on?

You can have a free barrel of oil, as a treat

I think he meant that grocery stores are the only thing still open that you could even road trip to

The one I worked at, a southeastern chain. After writing my car post and while I was in the shower, I thought “perfect timing!” As I’ve said before, however, I’m in college and I have a busy end. No fun trips until graduation, and that’s right after the 30-day guidelines are scheduled to end (hopefully that’s settled. Earlier better, later boo). So, gas might rise again, killing the cost benefit of taking a trip now.

I vaguely r ecall reading about someone who was trying to take photos of every interesting post office. Now that’s a road trip.

Not all of them, and frankly I’d rather sleep in my Jeep.
My favorite chain, the Graduate, shut all of their locations temporarily a week or so ago. Wondering whether they’ll ever reopen.

ShaleCo’s being ShaleCo’s. We were already in what was a large oversupply situation (2-3+ MMbbl/day) because the KSA bump + economic headwind s. Now it’s a nearly incomprehensible oversupply situation ( 20-30? MMbbl/day). Refineries ain’t buying and storage will fill fast. We’ll see some negative prices (Canada first, then US) very soon, oil quality depende nt. Expect we’ll see a lot of shut-ins and a fair amount of those will be permanent. Lack of investment (plenty of Capex cuts of last few years, let alone the current situation) c ould give us all a supply shock (‘22 maybe) that will make your wallet cry. Enjoy it now lol. O&G layoffs probably will be bad (already ugly) and plenty of companies have huge debt loads, so we’ll see a bunch die off. Banks are pretty exposed (looking at you Citigroup) . Won’t be able to find anyone willing to work in the O&G industry if they’re not careful...

We’re definitely going to be feeling ripple effects from this year for a long time. For so long we’ve assumed tomorrow’s pretty much going to be like yesterday, to the point where we just never seriously consider the possibility of world-altering events like this one.
9/11 should have taught us differently, but we fall back into complacency.

Gotta love when companies think economic booms are the perfect time to go deep in to debt....
Because nothing bad ever happens.
